The DEATH within Ms. Lwandele Nkwanyana, who used social media to express her concern over the cancellation of her application to study at the university in an inexplicable way, has given her reward and tangible results.

Ms Nkwanyana (26) from Bhanganomo, KwaNongoma, in the north of KwaZulu-Natal – almost did not continue her education at the university when she attended the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Ndumiso wing, Mgungundlovu, but was dismissed upon arrival.

“It was a very sad situation for me because I had been waiting for a long time to get an opportunity to study after completing matric in 2017, but I was not lucky enough to have my application accepted at different universities.

“In 2022, my request to do the Diploma in Public Management course at DUT was accepted, but I was embarrassed when I got there to register in January 2023, they told me that my place has been given to someone else,” he said.

However, it is now history that Ms. Nkwanyana has graduated from this field because when she was dismissed like this, she did not die inside – rather she contributed to the Ladies House Facebook page, expressing her grief, explaining what happened to her.

“I explained what happened, I also expressed my disappointment that I had traveled such a long distance from Johannesburg, where I was living with my unemployed mother, to study in Pietermaritzburg with the aim of changing the situation at home.

“I was really lucky, I was contacted by Ms. Zama Mncube who was in charge of the students at the time. She promised to help me solve my problem. It happened, she contacted me that everything was fine the next day. I went back there to study and there were many people who sympathized with me, they gave me money,” said Ms. Nkwanyana.

Continuing, he said that everything was not easy as while he was still studying in the first year, he lost the father of his five-year-old child, who was shot dead.

“All that disturbed me very much in my spirit and in my heart, but I pushed on because I wanted to succeed in my education. I only feel sorry for those I spent that year with. Most of them ended up not getting the opportunity that I got because I stood up, I died inside,” said Ms. Nkwanyana who is currently continuing her education as she is doing an Advanced Diploma in Public Management and Administration at DUT.
