The number of people on the voting roll in this country has increased to 28.5 million, from 27.7 million in the 2024 election.
These figures were revealed by the chief executive officer of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Sy Mamabolo, speaking to the media about the people who registered at the weekend.
Mamabolo said that among the provinces that had many people who came out to register to vote were KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and others.
“We are pleased with the increase in the number of people participating in voting. We will open another opportunity for people to register to vote again.”
He announced that they will open this opportunity on the weekend of August 1 and 2. Local government elections are on November 4.
“We want people to participate in the voting process, that’s why we have programs like this. Those who have not registered still have the opportunity to do this using the online system,” said Mamabolo.
