CAR: CHANGAN UNI-S

CHINA’S COMPANY, Changan Motors, has officially introduced itself in South Africa at the end of 2025 with four cars that we have partnered with the new Uni-S that they have high hopes for.

Changan cars are brought to the country by Jameel Motors South Africa.

The CEO of Jameel, Marinus Venter, said that now that they have reached the local market, it is time to expand.

He said the number of garages selling their 20 cars by the end of the year has slightly exceeded 40.

Their growth is determined to be led by Uni-S which they see as an important vehicle that will attract new customers.

There are many people who like a good-looking car who will be impressed because it is beautiful on the outside.

This SUV comes in three variants namely CS, CL and CE.

It depends on your model but the rims are between 18 inch and 19 inch.

At the front, the lights are LED and there is a line in the grille that has been well designed to combine them.

It’s the same thing as behind when there is a light that shines until it hits the other side until its sign lights up.

Inside, it is similar to cars from its country in that there are no buttons, but things are done on the 12.80-inch infotainment system touchscreen.

It’s something that makes it look good but it takes time to get used to setting mirrors, temperatures and more.

On this screen, you can also connect a mobile phone with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and see the outside as it has cameras that show the whole body.

There are enough places for on-board and wireless charging, it has automatic climate control, a 10.25 inch instrument cluster and a steering wheel with buttons.

I saw it open well and in the hood there is a panoramic sunroof.

The front seats are electrically adjustable and it is also able to freeze them.

All Uni-S models are powered by the same 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine with a 7 speed Dual-Clutch Transmission. 138kW of power and 300Nm of torque.

When it was launched at Kempton Park and we went to Pretoria this week, I spent most of the time sitting in the back.

There was enough space for the knees since the seats were low. Having them on the ground makes you feel closer to the road and you feel its nature on bad roads but it’s not that painful.

The sound of the exhaust when sitting in the back was loud and not in a pleasant way.

The engine’s power felt adequate and other cars overpowered easily.

They didn’t skimp on the driver’s services as it comes with a lot of stuff.

Among them is adaptive cruise control, it helps you stay in the lane, it warns you and brakes if you are about to crash, it says if there is a car on the side and so on.

They also included two airbags in the front and curtains in some models.

Price:

Uni-S CS – R389 900

Uni-S CL – R429 900

Uni-S CE – R469 900

They come with a five-year or 90,000km service plan and a five-year or 150,000km warranty.
