THE work to get rid of old green identity cards in this country is CONTINUED as there are 16 million people who still use them.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Leon Schreiber, said they want to get rid of those IDs that are easy to scam. In their place, people are encouraged to use new, smart IDs that are difficult to scam.

Schreiber said research shows that old IDs are used to scam people who steal citizenship.

“This study shows that these IDs are used for fraud in the African continent. This is done because they have an image that is easy to remove, put another one. If someone steals this ID, or if it is lost, it is easy for them to change the image and do a scam with it.”

He said that is why they are pushing hard for people to create new IDs.

“We are working with banks to make it easier for people to get new smart IDs. We want them to be issued in 750 bank branches within a year.”

He said that currently they are being beaten in 178 branches of different banks in the country.

“The people in the villages are benefiting from this program of getting these IDs because before they lived far away and could not reach our offices quickly. We are also strengthening security with these new IDs.”

And President Cyril Ramaphosa, is making fun of old ID cards which he says is easy for people to scam.

Saying this as the country tightens the borders in the country to prevent the entry of people from other countries without proper documents. There are widespread marches across the country to displace people who are in the country illegally.
