DA leader in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Sithembiso Ngema, said that he was tired of being insulted by people and two councilors in Durban left the ANC and joined the DA.
Ngema said two councillors, Mr Marco Mbambo and Mr David Ngubane, left the ANC because people were angry at them and accused the Durban Municipality of failing to deliver the needs of the people.
He said this while speaking to the media in Durban on Tuesday where he officially welcomed Mbambo and Ngubane.
“They said that although they still loved the Congress, but the truth is that they are tired of being insulted by the people of Durban because of the lack of water. They were blamed and called losers. The truth is that the organization they came from was failing to ensure that the council officials were doing their job properly. They were tired of seeing Durban falling in front of them, that’s why they decided to leave.” said Ngema.
Ngema said that Mbambo and Ngubane chose the DA because they trust its leadership.
“Even the President (Cyril Ramaphosa) said that the municipalities that are not managed well are those led by the DA. Even the ANC councilors when they are elected, they run to live in the areas managed by the DA. This shows that they do not trust themselves.”
Ngema said that he was joined by Mbambo and Ngubane it is an indication that the ANC will join forces in the local government elections in Thekwini Municipality.
Mbambo was the councilor in charge of the areas where KwaNgcolosi and Nqetho are located.
Last week, the ANC in Durban region announced the dismissal of Mbambo, accusing him of being a DA informer.
Mbambo said he felt bad about being called an informer.
“Other than that, I don’t have a bad heart. I’ve been fired, I’ve accepted that. Insults mean nothing, insults don’t stick. Everything will be over after two weeks.”
Ngubane was a councilor in Nazareth and Mariannhill.
Ngubane said he decided to leave after being guided by Mbambo, who he said is his best friend.
Ngubane said he trusts the DA to be able to fix the problems plaguing Durban.
The DA will attack Mbambo and Ngubane for councilorship in the areas they held.
The organizer of the ANC in the Theku region, Mr. Thanduxolo Sabelo, said that those who do not know the departure of Mbambo and Ngubane.
Sabelo said that the men cried during the meetings to nominate candidates for the ANC in the elections.
“People say they no longer want to be managed by them. They did not join the DA because they want to fight for the people, but they just want positions for themselves.”
Sabelo said Ngubane was facing an investigation.
“That’s why this (DA) forum was held quickly because they knew we were investigating him.”
