DURBAN City, which is expected to officially introduce Khalil Ben Youssef as its new coach, has released players that the coach will not need next season.

With the discovery ofof this country, City has released six players including Joslin Kamatuka and Falakhe Tshanini, whose contracts have not been renewed.

Four who were loaned to this team last season, Sphiwe Mahlangu and Ronaldo Maarman were returned to Sekhukhune United, Terrence Mashego returned to Mamelodi Sundowns, and Taahir Goedeman returned to Cape Town City.

Kamatuka from Namibia, who played an important role in helping this team get promoted to the Betway Premiership and win the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2024/2025 season, scored two goals in 23 games.

Tshanini from Nyanyadu, Dannhauser, last season was rubbing the bench as he was fighting for the jersey with Mashego on the left back wall.

He played only three games, including two he played from the bench, and one he started.

“It seemed that Tshanini would be retained by the team as Mashego returned to Mamelodi Sundowns who had loaned him to this Durban club last season, however it seems that he is not in the plans of the coach who will take over.As for Kamatuka, the team wanted to keep him but there could be no agreement on a new contract,” said the source.

Among the four players who appear to be trying their luck in this Durban team, there is left back Cohen Stander and goalkeeper Mlondi Mbanjwa.

Stander parted ways with Cape Town Spurs before the start of the 2025/2026 season following their relegation from the Motsepe Championship.

And Mbanjwa is trying his luck at City, last season he was on the books at Kruger United following the dismissal by MaZulu FC FC at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

Citizens, who finished eighth in the Premiership and won the Nedbank Cup title, are in the process of strengthening their squad with other strong players as they start training today for the start of the upcoming 2026/2027 season. It will play for the first time in the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederation Cup.
