The coach of the national women’s netball team, Jenny van Dyk, is STILL EXPECTING that her team will continue to progress in the Commonwealth Games despite winning both group games they have played.

The Proteas opened the tournament held in Glasgow, Scotland, by defeating Malawi 65-44 on Saturday night, before defeating Tonga 96-42 on Sunday night. He broke the record of this tournament which was 92 goals.

In this game, the local team went into the break with a 51-23 lead, and continued not to give Tonga a chance to breathe in the second half.

“The team played well. What I liked was that we were sharp up front, it was not easy to predict how we would attack like it happened in the first game,” said Van Dyk.

“We marked well again, especially in the second quarter. What we are looking to do is to start with a high gear. The good thing is that we were able to test different players. I liked the way Kamogelo Maseko and Owethu Ngubane played together towards the end of the game.

“The atmosphere is good in the team. We will rest, then prepare for the next game against Northern Ireland.”

The Proteas will face Northern Ireland today at 3 pm, face Australia tomorrow, and close the group stage with England on Thursday.

The two countries that will finish at the top of this group will advance to the semi-finals that will be played on Saturday.

Meanwhile: Local swimmers are the ones who paved the way by winning medals for the country in different events.

They include Nathan Hendricks and Pieter Coetzé who got gold, Erin Gallagher and Aimee Canny who got silver and the men’s and women’s relay teams got bronze, as well as Ruard van Renen with Olivia Nel.
