The Madlanga COMMISSION yesterday saw evidence of WhatsApp conversations between the alleged corrupt tycoon Mr. Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his associate Mr. Mike van Wyk, including discussions about senior police leadership and allegations of drug trafficking.

The testimony was about the scrutiny of the businessmen’s relationship and was put on the table by Advocate Matthew Chaskalson.

Among the most prominent discussions there is also a message where Matlala appeared to express confidence in his influence in the SAPS police force.

“My man is going to be a national commissioner,” said Matlala to Van Wyk when they discussed the report about the allegedly corrupt police.

In that interview, Van Wyk expresses concern that what is happening in relation to the report may affect the plans they were talking about.

Other evidence presented before the commission focused on messages and videos that Matlala and Van Wyk allegedly sent to each other revealing money and drugs.

It is said that Van Wyk was asking the price of the drugs seen in the video.

It was expected that Van Wyk would appear before the commission yesterday, but it happened because he was said to be ill.
