They smelled the chieftainship with the shooting death of the leader of the ANC in Thekwini branch, Mr. Sipho Simiso Dlamini, who was killed while walking with the chieftain.
It is suspected that the bulls were targeting Chief Lungisani Mkhathini, when they opened fire on the car in which Dlamini was present.
Dlamini, who was the ANC coordinator in Ward 67, was Mkhathini’s bodyguard. He was shot and killed on Saturday, leaving an ANC event.
In this incident, Mukhathini and one of his bodyguards were injured.
Mkhathini is a Chief under the Mnini dynasty, in Mgababa. King Pathisizwe Luthuli said that he believes that the attack on Mkhathini is related to the struggle for leadership in the area.
“I also fear for my life. I urge the police and the Department of Governance in Cooperation with Indigenous Affairs to investigate this incident.”
Dlamini was a councilor in Thekwini Municipality between 2011 and 2016.
The leadership of the ANC in Theku region described Dlamini as a leader who was dedicated to his work.
The spokesperson of the ANC in Theku region, Mr. Thinta Cibane, said that they have lost a lot with the death of Dlamini.
“Dlamini dedicated his whole life working for the ANC and the people. He worked hard and humbled himself. We will always remember Dlamini for his ability to bring people together and campaign.”
Cibane appealed to the police to deal with the issue of Dlamini’s murder.
“We condemn the killing of Dlamini. We want the police to speed up their investigation. We want all leaders who work for the community to be protected and we want people to feel safe. Our condolences to Dlamini’s family and the entire community that has been affected. We will continue to keep those injured in our prayers.”
The police have not yet commented on the incident.
