THERE was joy at the Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA)0 factory in Gqeberha this week as they produced the latest 500,000 Polo to be sold outside the country.

This blue Polo is heading to the United Kingdom which is one of the countries where this company produces and sells.

It will be remembered that from 2024 the VW factory in this country will be the only one to produce the Polo and it will be sold in 38 countries.

Production now started in 2021 and in the last 30 years there have been four models built there.

In all these years 2 044 761 have been built. 596 631 of them were sold in this country and 1 448 130 were taken abroad.

The most popular country for domestically produced Polo is Germany where 124,711 were purchased as of 2020 followed by the United Kingdom with 113,171.

VWGA’s director of production, Ulrich Schwabe, said building the 500,000th Polo was something they were very proud of.

“Achieving this shows the hard work, skill and determination of everyone at the Kariega factory. Our people have dedicated 30 years building and delivering this car to our valued customers.”
