Preparations to host the conference to elect the ANC leadership in the Thekwini Region have begun in full swing.

Thekwini, which is the region with the most members in the ANC, is supposed to hold a leadership conference this month but some members of the party complain that plans to host the conference are being rushed.

The member, who asked not to be named, said that few branches have held meetings to nominate candidates for positions in the conference.

The member said that less than 20 branches have had meetings to prepare for the conference.

There are 111 ANC branches in the Thekwini Region.

“The last report we received showed that about 15 branches have held meetings. This leaves many questions. The deadline that was set is approaching, we do not know if all these branches will be able to hold their meetings in the short time left.”

Another member made allegations that there are members of the interim team leading the ANC in Durban who do not want the conference to be held.

The member said that the purpose of those who do not want a conference is because they want local government elections to be held and the leaders of the region.

“This is a deliberate thing. They know that the local government elections are near. If the conference can be disrupted now, there is a good chance that it will never be held after the elections. If the elections are not held, it is the leaders of the ANC in the region, they know that they are the ones who will be involved in the selection of people who will be councilors and who will lead the municipality.”

The spokesperson of the ANC in Theku Region, Mr. Thinta Cibane, denied that anyone is trying to disrupt the sitting of the conference.

Cibane told a news agency that is a partner ofOf this countryIOL, that preparations for the conference are underway.

“We urge members of the party to avoid spreading nonsense and things that cause division, especially at this time when we are looking at the local government elections.”

The race to lead the ANC in Durban is expected to be between the speaker of the council, Mr. Thabani Nyawose and the former mayor of the council, Mr. James Nxumalo.

On Nyawose’s side, the former treasurer of the ANC in Durban, Mr. Ayanda Ndlovu, is running for the position of secretary.

Also appearing is the councilor of Thekwini Municipality, Mr. Vusi Mngadi, who is vying for the position of treasurer.

It is not clear who is running for other positions.
