Confusion has broken out after the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, told eNCA that he was ordered to report to the police station in Brooklyn, Pretoria as there are said to be arrests linked to the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).

KZN Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says they are ‘facing a war’ after he and Head of Intelligence Dumisani Khumalo were called to the Pretoria police station, apparently by the corruption investigation unit, IDAC.

All this seems to have changed, the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) did not issue a warrant for the arrest of police officers. The reasons for the apparent delay remain unclear, raising serious questions about what has changed.

The development comes amid the scrutiny of an extensive intelligence investigation and ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption, abuse of power and criminality in law enforcement. The decision not to proceed with the arrest of these people at this time may fuel speculation and we want things to be transparent.

Authorities are yet to provide a full explanation. Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi also reported to the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria after being told to present himself. An angry Mkhwanazi says “the war is here.” Asked about a possible war, he said: “yes…”
