Durban City’s acting coach, Pitso Dladla, has come out publicly about not being given the position of full-time coach for the team.

Dladla will be on the bench for City as they face Upington City in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 match on Saturday at 3 pm at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium, Upington.

It will be the third time this season that he leads the team as a substitute following the guidance of Siyethemba Badela two weeks ago.

Badela, who was hired at the end of December, was the second coach this season to be fired by City. The ax first fell on Gavin Hunt in early December.

“My position is clear in the team between me and the management. I don’t have any goals to be the head coach because I still have my own ambitions that I still want to achieve as a coach, I have put other ambitions aside.

Since I have a Caf B Licence degree which I have done while in this team, the plans I have from now on is to do Caf A Licence courses, which makes it difficult for you to go and study when you are in the position of head coach,” explained Dladla in a press conference.

“Therefore, I am the acting coach and I have no problem doing this job if I need to do it because the team is still looking for a head coach, which is not hidden.”

Regarding the game against Upington, Dladla said that although they expect a tough game from this team playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they are determined to advance to the next round.

“The good thing is that we usually go to Upington because last season we were still playing in the Motsepe Championship and we also played Upington City in their stadium before our promotion to the Premiership.

We understand the difficulty of traveling for hours by bus to Upington. So we thank the efforts made by the team management, PSL and Nedbank for arranging for us to travel by plane to Upington which will make it much better than traveling by bus.

It will be a very difficult game but we are determined to win it because we have intentions to go far in this competition.”
