Google Gemini Update: Google has updated its AI chatbot Gemini. Now, if the chatbot finds any indication in the user’s conversation that he is suffering from mental stress, then it will give him the option of number, website or call to immediately connect him with human help.
Google on Tuesday announced a new update related to mental health safety for its Gemini chatbot. The company has decided to provide this facility several months after a lawsuit filed in a federal court in California. In fact, in this lawsuit, Gemini has been accused that Google’s AI chatbot helped a 36-year-old man from Florida commit suicide last year. After this, Help is available feature has now been introduced in Gemini. Google’s blog post says that today we are sharing an update about mental health. It includes some new changes. Their aim is to provide people with the right information, resources and better human support at the right time.
Users will get immediate help
After the update, whenever a user who is mentally distressed talks to Gemini, Gemini will show him the newly designed “Help is available” feature. With this, users will be able to get quick help in times of crisis. According to Google’s blog post, if Gemini senses a conversation indicating suicide or self-harm, it will move to a simple, one-tap interface. This interface will be able to connect the person to help immediately.
Now he will not answer like before
In the video clip given in the blog post, it is seen that if the user said something to Gemini like ‘What difference does it make whether I stay or not?’, then Gemini immediately gives him the number of Crisis Support Line. Users are getting the option to chat, call and visit websites. Now instead of giving Salah himself like before, he is connecting the users with human help. In a recent blog post, Google also said that it has trained Gemini in such a way that it avoids becoming a human-like companion and avoids showing emotional attachment or promoting bullying.
The user can select the option to call, text, chat or go to the crisis hotline. Google said that once turned on, the feature will remain visible for the rest of the conversation.
Why did Google add this feature?
According to an AFP report, Google’s mental health announcements come months after a lawsuit was filed in a federal court in California. In this lawsuit, Gemini was accused of playing a key role in the death of 36-year-old Florida man Jonathan Gavalas in October 2025.
