The CEO of Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Motaung Jnr, is not in the plans to continue fighting for the position even though it is clear that the Naturena team, which is loved almost more than all in South African football, is headed for the cliff.
Although there are times when the Chiefs have shown that they are on the way to bring back happiness to the fans, the season is still early but the recent results have brought it back to the world.
Recently, Motaung Jnr who is the Sporting Director was at Marawa Sports Worldwide (MSD) where he was going to answer tough questions about the team’s apparent decline under his watch.
This position fell to Motaung Jnr in 2021. When he arrived, he made it clear that his and his team’s aim was not only to revive the fortunes of Chiefs in South African football, but he was also looking to return to African games.
Although he was bombarded with questions on the radio, especially from listeners who described themselves as Chiefs, Motaung justified himself by saying that under his leadership, Amakhosi ended the famine of more than 10 years.
Last year Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup defeating Orlando Pirates in the final in Durban.
The beating of Chiefs in the last four games in all competitions has brought back the gap in the width of the gap between them and their rivals Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
On Saturday, a number of Chiefs fans marched to Naturena to voice their complaints about the team’s handling of things.
“I would be milking the goats when I say that we are happy with Chiefs for what is happening because the team is not even close to where we thought it would be this time,” said Motaung Jnr.
“It took us three years to start the work to end the hunger of last year’s cups, it is an indication of the big things we can do if we all fight together.
“Even in these positions that we have been given, there are conditions that we should achieve. If that is not possible, there is a place where we have to answer.
“I’m the type of person who won’t need to be told to step down if I see that the cart is headed for the cliff when it’s being driven by me.
“I accept that there is a lot of underarms that we have to do as team managers, but I have no doubt that we have the experience to change the situation and bring Chiefs back to the top of South African football, where they deserve to be.”
Chiefs will return to the field when they face Durban City in the Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium in Nasrec, on Sunday at 3.30 pm.
