The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has warned consumers that certain Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 vehicles are being recalled in South Africa due to a possible fault that could damage the gearbox.

About 1,846 vehicles that were distributed between 8 January 2025 and 16 January this year have been recalled.

According to the NPC, the supplier claims that the problem is related to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

If a so-called solenoid error occurs under certain driving conditions, the vehicle’s control systems cannot communicate properly. This can cause the transmission to spin too fast, which can cause damage and even lead to a loss of power at higher speeds.

“There is also a risk that gearbox fluid can leak if the gearbox casing is damaged, which can increase the chance of an accident or even a fire if an ignition source is present.”

The NPC requests consumers with the vehicles concerned to take their vehicles to an authorized Toyota dealer, where the gearbox’s electronic control unit will be reprogrammed free of charge.

Given the safety concerns, the NPC also appeals to consumers to respond quickly to this recall.
