THE BURGLARY of Mkhumbane Secondary School, in Chesterville, has given parents a strong reason not to be affected by the cameras that caused a stir last month at the school.
This is just in time It is a country talks with one of the parents, to see how the situation is going since the return to school, following three weeks of study disruption.
The parent, Ms. Xolile Buhlalu, revealed that the school was broken into on March 10, but the three suspects were not caught on camera, and ended up taking nothing.
“These cameras are wanted by Sadtu teachers and the Department of Education, they clearly revealed that there were three suspects, and one of them, we hear that those who know him have said who he is. This has given us another strong reason as parents why their presence is important,” said Ms. Buhlalu.
He said the acting principal, as he was suspended before, fully understands the concerns of parents about crime in the school.
Mrs. Buhlalu said that is why the principal listens to them as parents when they say that he should not be expelled. He pointed out that last Wednesday, the Ministry sent an expert who was supposed to remove them.
“However, he found his parents at the school gate, they came closer to hear what he was going to do, when he went inside,” said Ms. Buhlalu, who said she ended up leaving without taking them out, after listening to them saying they were useful after the break-in a few days ago.
He pointed out that the school itself is still going well with part-time teachers.
“Those who neglect to teach our children, they have not come back. They still get up and close the education offices in Truro. Our children are still being taught by those who are paid by the parents. We see that everything is going well because they teach them even on weekends to try to make up for lost time,” he said.
He went on to say that they are currently in the process of asking the Department to continue employing them full-time because they take their children’s education seriously.
“Those who choose to leave our children alone because of the cameras when they are in the rich schools where their children are studying, we don’t need them in our school,” he said.
There was a lot of noise in this school at the end of January, 22 Sadtu teachers abandoned teaching. Among their complaints, they wanted the cameras installed in the classrooms to be removed. It turned out that they believed that the principal – who was there at the time – put them in because he wanted to watch them teach.
It started with parents beating their feet, saying that they are not going anywhere because they are one of the tools that the school uses to monitor crime.
In late February, he was finally suspended by the current principal. Although the parents, who were furious, made it clear that the Department is suspending him because he is taking the side of the teachers of the ANC-affiliated organization, Sadtu, the Department revealed that he has been appointed to something unrelated to Dungunyane. The principal has not been suspended for three months.
