FORMER broadcaster in Khozini, Ngizwe Mchunu, has challenged the leadership of the ANC in Durban to listen to the people of this country who are complaining about illegal immigrants.

Mchunu said leaders should act on the complaints of people who are fighting against illegal immigrants in the country.

He said this at a time when the leadership of the ANC in the Theku region, will make him cry following the vandalism of his house in Mbumbulu.

Mchunu’s house was set on fire on Sunday, and its burning is suspected to be related to anti-immigrant protests, as Mchunu is one of the leaders of these protests.

He told the leaders of the ANC in the Thekwini region that the people of this country are tired of illegal immigrants.

“We are asking you leaders to listen to us. I know that your ears are slow to hear but I am asking you to listen to us. What we are doing here is peaceful. We know that all of you political leaders are slow to hear.”

The ANC leaders who went to mourn Mchunu were led by the ANC organizer in Durban who is also the Speaker of the Durban Municipality, Mr. Thabani Nyawose.

Mchunu challenged Nyawose to take action against the damage caused by immigrants in the city of Durban.

“Dad, I know that one day you may be the mayor of the municipality as you treat each other the way you treat each other. You can’t pretend you don’t see what is happening in the city of Durban. The buildings are dirty. Immigrants bribe the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs. They bribe everyone.”

Mchunu said he was happy that the ANC in Durban recently issued a statement in which it said it supports protests against illegal immigrants.

Nyawose said the ANC does not have a policy to protect illegal immigrants.

“People who enter our border without documents authorizing them to enter South Africa, the ANC condemns that. This is just a teaching carried out by people who want to portray the ANC as an organization that goes against the grain, that no longer listens to the people.”

Nyawose said that they condemn the burning of Ngizwe’s house, and said that they hope that the police will quickly find the suspects.

The ANC donated a R10 000 voucher to buy building materials.
