Glynnis Breytenbach, former public prosecutor and DA MP, is the DA’s new chief whip in parliament.
Breytenbach takes over from George Michalakis after he was named the DA’s new parliamentary leader earlier this month.
Michalakis said on Monday that as chief whip in parliament, Breytenbach will be the custodian of parliament’s rules and procedures on behalf of the DA.
“She will also, together with me, be the party’s chief negotiator in the government of national unity (GNE) in parliament.”

Breytenbach is no stranger to the National Assembly (NA), with around 12 years of experience in parliament, 10 of which Michalakis served as her counterpart in the National Council of Provinces.
Breytenbach served her entire term of office in parliament as the DA’s spokesperson on justice.
Michalakis believes that with Breytenbach’s appointment, the DA is sending a clear message that safety and security, in accordance with the vision of Geordin Hill-Lewis, federal leader of the DA, is a top priority for the party in parliament.
Breytenbach, as chief whip, together with Bax Nodada, deputy chief whip, will be responsible for 13 NV whips, 87 NV members and 12 NRVP members, “and I have no doubt that they will form a formidable team,” Michalakis said on Monday.
