A school in Mthwalume, Qoloqolo, ward 15 SibonguJeza Primary School with small classrooms has been rescued by a businessman.

A businessman from this area, Mr. Jacob Gumede of the Lunga Da Bhiva company, has donated one study room to add more study rooms to this school.

Speaking to Solezwe, Gumede said that as a businessman, he felt it was very important for him to give back to the community and do something for the school.

He complained that what motivated him was that he noticed that this school has very small classrooms.

”I thought it’s better that as a local businessman there is something I’m doing. It would not be easy for me to remain silent when I see that there is a role I can play in the situation this school is facing,” he explained.

He said it is good for businessmen to be seen designing a role to help the communities they belong to.

He revealed that they spent approximately R180 000 to complete the entire project. ”We can’t even mourn all this money because it did something very important. There is nothing that I believe is more important than education. That’s why we thought it would be better to contribute,” he explained.

He also pointed out that they have installed a water bucket in the premises of this school because they understand very well the issue of the water problem facing the community in this area.

”All that area has a water crisis, that’s why we felt it necessary to escape with water too,” he said.

He stated that the school will have 84 students after the addition of this room. At first he said there were 54. He said he wishes to see this school grow in terms of numbers.

The members of the community in this area applauded what this businessman did.

Gumede revealed that the room took four months before it was fully completed.

He thanked its well-known builder in the area, Mr. Skhona Madlala, who said he volunteered to build it for free, saying that it was his way of giving back to the community.

In January, this businessman took it upon himself to repair the road because it was not in the right condition.

The principal of the school, Ms. Hlongwa thanked Gumede for his contribution to the school. He said it’s nice to see people in the community giving back.
