MILFORD FC and Casric Stars who are the teams in the competition for the Motsepe Foundation Championship league title sent a strong message to their rivals by winning with a flurry of goals.
Milford returned to the top of the Motsepe Championship log by defeating Baroka FC 5-0 on Saturday, at Mhlathuze Sports Complex and on Friday, Casric did the same by beating Kruger United 4-0 at the home team of Mpumalanga, at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, KwaMhlanga.
Milford are tied with Kruger at the top with 40 points but the Richards Bay team is on top because of the goals.
There are eight games left for the teams playing in this division – except for Black Leopards and Gomora United – before the season ends.
Casric coached by Joseph “Bucs” Mthombeni prepares to face Durban City in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup on April 4, at Chatsworth Stadium, Durban.
It reached this stage of the competition by eliminating two Betway Premiership teams, Orlando Pirates and MaZulu in the Last 16 and quarterfinals separately.
Milford coached by its chairman, Xanti Pupuma, will face TS Galaxy in one of the Nedbank semi-finals on April 5, at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.
Both of these teams, Milford and Casric, their managers and coaches have repeatedly stated that their priority this season is to win the Motsepe Championship league title. However, they do not want to be complacent even in the Nedbank Cup which has been won by a team playing in the Championship.
After the semi-finals, Milford and Casric will face each other in a much-anticipated match on April 8, at the Mhlathuze Sports Complex.
As it happened, Cape Town City, which is also one of the teams in contention for the Championship title, also dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Venda FC on Saturday, at Thohoyandou Stadium, Venda.
In the last three games, City came back with only two points in a 2-2 draw with Milford before being beaten 3-1 by Highbury. However, it is still in fourth place on the log with 37 points.
