Milford FC (0) 1
Magesi FC (0) 0
MILFORD FC put themselves in a position to move up to the Betway Premiership, returning with three points by defeating Magesi FC in the PSL Promotion Play-Offs at Mhlathuze Sports Complex, Richards Bay, yesterday afternoon.
Milford’s goal was blocked by Khanyisani Radebe in the 95th minute of added time by the referee, who had just come on from the bench. He ended up killing and eating the football given to him by Menzi “Deco” Chili.
It was known in this game that things were in Magesi’s favor because of the difference in goals between them and Milford, even though they were still tied by three points at the top of the log. Milford’s win made us the best with six points in the three Play-Offs that have been played.
Milford won for the second time in these games as they opened by beating Cape Town City 1-0 last week at Athlone Stadium. Magesi did the same, coming back with three points against City on Saturday at Seshego Stadium, Polokwane.
Milford’s victory yesterday has put them in a good position to secure a place in the Premiership as they need four points from the two games they will play.
It will play at home against City in the second round on Saturday at 3 pm, in Mhlathuze, before closing with Magesi on June 13 away, in Seshego.
The Play-Offs are the second chance for the Stallions who missed out on the Motsepe Foundation Championship title after staying at the top for a while, and ended up third on the log behind City who finished second, the title was taken by Kruger United.
And Magesi finds itself playing these games only because it finished 15th in the Premiership log. It failed to peel towards the tail of the log despite its change of coaches. It sacked John Maduka at the end of the season, hired Allan Freese who is now facing the responsibility of rescuing it from being relegated to the Championship.
