The former mayor of the Durban Municipality, Mrs. Zandile Gumede, who has been announced as a member of the Durban party, has been accepted for a position in the MKP.
Mrs Gumede has been promoted to the position of Deputy Producer of MKP KwaZulu-Natal.
This was announced by the Secretary General of MKP, Mr. Sibonelo Nomvalo, when he spoke to the media.
Mrs Gumede has been the chairperson of the ANC in the Thekwini Region and has been a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly. He has been falling out with MKP leader Jacob Zuma since their time in the ANC.
The members of the MKP sang the song “we are taking Durban” when Mrs. Gumede was announced.
Mrs. Gumede did not want to reveal the reasons why she joined the MKP, instead she chose to thank the MKP for the good reception.
Mrs Gumede has been beset by problems as she is dealing with a fraud case involving a R320 million tender for waste collection in Durban.
Nomvalo said they were very happy to be joined by an experienced leader like Mrs Gumede.
Apart from Mrs. Gumede, MKP also announced other new members.
Among the new members are the former deputy mayor of Mgungundlovu District Municipality, Mrs. Fucwana Zungu and the former member of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Mxolisi Phakathi.
Nomvalo said the joining of new members shows that the group is growing.
“Some called us a paper fire, but we keep growing.”
Nomvalo revealed that they have completed the process of nominating people who will represent the party in the local government elections.
Nomvalo revealed that nine MKP members who were running for councilors were killed.
Most of the accused are in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Those killed were Ms. Ncami Luthuli, Ms. Lindiwe Ntshangase, Ms. Thandeka Ntshangase, Ms. Phakanyiswe Blose, Mr. Sazi Cele, Mr. Mthokozisi Cele, Mr. Mzwakhe Dlamini, Mr. Siyabonga Mabaso and Mr. Mzwakhile Zungu.
“We are very saddened by the dedicated members who were killed before their dream of representing MKP in the elections was realized. We were looking forward to a lot from the leaders. We are in touch with the police unit that investigates the killing of politicians. We want all those involved to be arrested.”
Zuma said they will win the next local government elections.
“Do you know the tsunami? The tsunami will hurt people.”
Zuma said the new members have political experience.
“You know all these leaders, no one can ask who they are.”
