FOR MANY people, the name of Mrs. Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi would not easily come to mind until this MK Party Whip was arrested on suspicion of defrauding members of her party working in Parliament in Cape Town this week.
Mrs Mokoena-Zondi appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court where she will be charged with defrauding MKP employees of more than R200 000.
However, the big question that many people may be wondering is who is this politician who has gotten into such trouble?
Seeng Mmabatho Nthabiseng Mokoena-Zondi (46) has become a MKP Member of Parliament, taking over from Mr. Brian Molefe in February this year. Before that, he held the same position as Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
Before jumping into the burning coals of politics, Mrs. Mokoena-Zondi was the Director of the Labor Division in the local government sector. In terms of education, it turns out that he has an Honors Degree in Public Administration from the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA), and then a Master of Management in Public Administration which he continues with at MANCOSA.

In a media report, he revealed that there were allegations that when he called himself Seeng Mokoena-Brown, he used a fake education title (Bachelor of Commerce Degree) from the University of South Africa. In those reports, it is said that he did this with the aim of getting a job that would earn him R50 000 a month in Ingwe Municipality, Bulwer, in the middle of KwaZulu-Natal, 13 years ago. It is said that he resigned from his job at the time that those allegations were being investigated.
Mrs Mokoena-Zondi is currently out on R30 000 bail, and will return to the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on June 18.
