SIWUSHIYE, a resident of Mkholombe, Port Shepstone, was shocked by the actions of a man who allegedly stabbed another person to death on Saturday, because of his girlfriend.

In this incident, a man (30) who is said to be from Mount Fletcher, Eastern Cape, died.

According to the chairman of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Mkholombe, Mr. Bhakabhaka Somlhaba, the incident happened in front of the deceased’s employment office.

“The suspect is said to have found out that his girlfriend is in love with the deceased, so he gave his wages. It is said that he came and knocked, and when he opened the door, the suspect approached him, asking him about his girlfriend,” said Somlhaba.

He said that from this noise, the girl is inside the deceased’s house.

“It is said that the deceased was chased by another person, he fell into an open area and that’s when the suspect attacked him with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly,” said Somlhaba.

He said that when they were informed that the deceased had been stabbed, they ordered those at the scene to find a car to rush the deceased to the hospital.

“When he got there he died,” said Somlhaba.

He went on to say that when they were looking for the suspect, they found that he is from Gamalakhe, Port Shepstone.

He said they came upon him while he was walking with another woman, and he tried to run away with her.

“We suspect that this woman is in love with him again and she did not know anything about how much damage she has caused because when we told her that we are taking her because she has killed someone, she got very angry,” he said.

He went on to say that the woman then told them that since she is in this area, she is from Gamalakhe, near the suspect’s home.

“He revealed that he had called him and said that he would come to visit him but he was confused that when he arrived, he said that they can no longer go to his house, they have to go somewhere else. We caught them on their way to that unknown place,” said Somlhaba.

He said the incident has shocked the community who thought that the cases of brutal killings in the area have improved.

He said that in the past the area was infamous for killing people in a brutal way, and he said that a year had passed since the establishment of the CPF, which had restored stability to the community.

“Now people are scared that a horrific incident is happening again,” said Somlhaba.

He said that one of the things that worries them is that the area is full of slums, there are always unknown people, who come to rent, to work.

He stated that they did not know the suspect as he was a person who had not lived in the area for a long time.

He said the woman who was in the fight looked scared and could not even speak after the incident.

He said they were making efforts to find the family of the deceased who is said to be in the Eastern Cape.

The KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, said the Port Shepstone police have arrested two suspects, aged 36 and 58, for the murder that happened on Saturday, in Mkholombe.

“The suspects are expected to appear at the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court tomorrow,” said Magwaza.
