Chippa United COACH, Brandon Truter, hopes to make history by being the first to stay in this position for a long time.

Truter, who joined Chilli Boys last week, was on the bench in the Betway Premiership season finale when the team beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Saturday. This result saved them from the danger of falling into the Play Offs which would have put them in danger of the ax. Truter, who did not have a team to coach since he was appointed to Upington City playing for the Motsepe Foundation last season, confirmed that he has agreed with the Chippa management to continue coaching this team next season. He is the sixth coach hired by Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi’s Chilli Boys for the 2025/2026 season. Sinethemba Badela was the one who started the season cooking Chippa but was fired, and Musa Nyatama was caught. After a few games, he was fired and Luc Eymael was hired, who was moved, and Vusumuzi Vilakazi was picked up. Before Truter’s arrival, Hlanga Dikeni held the reins.

Truter said he is not concerned about Chippa’s history of firing coaches

“We have agreed with the team that I will continue to prepare for the start of the season. I want to fix the culture, a different way for the team. I know Chippa’s history (of firing coaches). If you are a coach and you don’t tell yourself that you can do the job, there will be a bad thought in your mind. The conversation I had with the team owner and the family is to build something for the long term, build a name. We don’t want this bad name in the team of always hiring and firing. It is in the hands of the team and the chairman whether they want to change that but I hope that I will be one of the coaches to finish the season,” said Truter.

Chippa has employed 42 trainers in the 14 years it has reached the paying stage.

Among the respected coaches in Mzansi who are returning from Chippa are Manqoba Mngqithi who is in Lamontville Golden Arrows, Eric Tinkler who was recently dismissed by Sekhukhune United, Ernst Middendorp, Gavin Hunt who is in Stellenbosch FC and others.
