The Mexican GOVERNMENT says that bodies were found on Wednesday during huge celebrations in Mexico City as the national team advances to the next round of the World Cup.
A 19-year-old woman is among three people who died due to suffocation while enjoying the results of the World Cup home match in Mexico City on Tuesday.
A 48-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man also died after a crowd descended on the city following a 2-0 win over Ecuador, health authorities in the capital said on Wednesday.
More than a million people took to the streets, many heading to the Angel of Independence monument in the city, to celebrate the country’s first victory since 1986, the city government said.
The celebration took place after Mexico beat Ecuador to record their first World Cup victory since 1986, joining the hosts on a tie in the round of 16.
