Customs officers from the Antalya international airport in Turkey stopped a passenger from Paris after more than €380 000 in cash (about R7 250 400), which was hidden in baby diapers, was found in his possession.
According to Turkey’s trade ministry, the cash was found in six different cloths hidden in the passenger’s hand luggage.
“The passenger was en route from Paris to Antalya. A total of €381,750 in cash was confiscated after it was found in baby diapers,” the ministry said.
The passenger has not yet been identified.
The public prosecutor’s office in the south of the city has started an investigation.
Although there is no limit to the amount of cash that passengers can bring to Turkey, it is a legal obligation to declare it at customs if it amounts to €10,000 or more.
