VICTIMS of the 2022 floods, who were moved from a flat in South Beach, Durban, to a government center in Montclair, said they were satisfied with the new location they were brought to.

One of the victims, Ms. Thandeka Sekhoto said that the place they are now in is bigger compared to the one where they have been living for more than three years.
“We see the social situation of this family as very good because the parents found enough space to live with their family. Where we came from, we were mixed together in one place, but here everyone has their own room. In the past, you would find Mkhize staying with Mhlongo in the same place. Now a person can live alone or with their children,” said Ms. Sekhoto.
He said they were told that they would stay in this area for a few months before being removed, and taken to subsidized houses where they would live forever in Cornubia.
He said that although they were worried about what they would do with their children attending Addington Primary School, government officials told them that it would be fixed as the schools were closed.
