MEMBERS of Parliament have criticized the interim report of the committee investigating the allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who brings forward most of the people involved in the alleged collusion between the police and gangs.
The committee members ordered that the interim report be started. He said this at the committee meeting yesterday.
There are no people in the provisional report that are part of gangs.
The report found that there may be laws governing the conduct of ministers that were violated by the suspended Police MEC, Mr. Senzo Mchunu, but continued that there is no evidence that Mchunu is working with gangs.
Mkhwanazi had previously made allegations that Mchunu was close to gangsters.
Other people the report found not guilty include the former Minister of Police, Mr. Bheki Cele, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, Mr. Brown Mogotsi, the suspended Kurhuleni Municipality Police Chief, Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, the head of IDAC, Advocate Andrea Johnson and others.
Members of the committee pointed at the Parliamentary team that was compiling the report, complaining that the team ignored their views while compiling the interim report.
A member of the EFF, Ms. Leigh-Ann Mathys, said that being left out of their views made them wonder whose instructions the team was following?
“Thirdly, we are now giving our opinions to the team. The team simply ignored our opinions. This report does not reveal the opinions of the committee members. The report makes it clear that either the team is acting on its own or it is being influenced by some who see what they are telling them to write. The team should tell us who they are telling us.”
MKP member, Mr. David Skosana, said that it has become clear to them that something is wrong.
“We are disappointed. They made the first report, they said they made a mistake. They made the second report, they said they made a mistake. We are still talking about the same thing.”
One of the team that compiled the report, Ms. Christine Silkstone, apologized for not seeing the views of the committee members.
Mrs. Silkstone complained about the work they were dealing with which she said was too much, but she said they are dedicated to their work.
The chairman of the committee, Mr. Soviet Lekganyane, said they will wait for a new report to be written by the team, and then hold a meeting.
