BROADCASTS have suddenly resigned from the stations they were working in because of the councilorship in their local municipalities. Andile “MC Pholobas” Ngcobo has left the masked show he was doing on Nanda 88.4 FM, Ezivus’ Usinga, because the Economic Freedom Fighters want him to stand in the local government elections on November 4.

MC Pholobas, who started making a name for himself at Zwi Lomzansi 98.0 FM, said he resigned this week. Nomvelo Zulu, who used to broadcast the Zayoni music program on Sundays, said he left Nongoma 88.3 FM a few weeks ago because he is ready to serve his community. He said he will represent Nkatha Freedom Party in ward 1 in Nongoma Municipality.

Nomvelo is the son and daughter of the King of KwaMandlakazi, Bhekintinta Zulu. He said it was the community that persuaded him not to contest the election under Nkatha, a party he has been fighting with for years. Nomvelo, who used to broadcast on Zululand 97.0 FM, said that he is well aware of the problems facing his community and is ready to deal with them.

MC Pholobas also said that the community of ward 16 and the Economic Freedom Fighters asked him to be their representative in Ndwedwe Municipality. He said he also finally agreed because he saw the impetus for development in Malangeni, Ngoza and Wosiyane.

MC Pholobas said he was very moved to see children still walking long distances to go to high schools, the lack of tarred roads, clinics, halls, playgrounds and water.

He said he was tired of using his money to buy food for poor families. “There is a family that I can build a house with my own money near home, without looking for profit.”

Sole Lezwe Ngekeende learned that MC Pholobas will be presented to the public at the Wosiyane community hall this Saturday at 10 am.

Another celebrity who has recently been nominated to run for council is Bhongolethu “Dr Khehlelezi” Mzozo. This month, which has also been similarZalo and broadcast on Vuma 103 FM, will represent the MK Party in ward 60 in the Thekwini Municipality. Khehlelezi said he was elected by the Cottonlands community in Verulam to represent them.

He made a name for himself by being the poet of the leader of the MK Party, Mr. Jacob Zuma and presented My Drum on 1KZN TV, Nomkelemane Langa, was elected by the public to represent MK in ward 3 in Nkandla Municipality. He said he will fight for the community of Nkandla to get the development it deserves after years of not getting any benefits.
