Those who overpaid the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will be laughing at themselves, as they will be reimbursed.
Beneficiaries who received loans from this fund before 2010. The administrator of NSFAS, Professor Hlengani Mathebula, said that they found a number of people who paid for this fund, and found that they had overpaid.
He said that in November 2015, there was a similar plan to recover the money that was paid to the debtors.
“There are many who were paid in 2015, and we found out that there are others that we could not find. That is why we are looking for them to return their money. Their money will be transferred to the National Credit Regulator (NCR),” he said.
He said they want to do the truth to the people who owe this fund but who have paid in excess.
“It is our duty to return the money that was paid in excess to those who owed us. We urge those who owed us to check that they did not pay in excess.”
He said that those who want to be reimbursed must fill out a form with the bank information they want to be paid.
“We process all the information before refunding the money. The bank details must be in the name of the refund recipient. Those who do not want to receive the money can donate it to NSFAS to help other students. We urge those who want a refund to use only NSFAS platforms.”
He urged those who will be refunded not to pass on their information to any forum other than NSFAS. This fund only returns this money, there are always complaints about those who are disqualified as well as those who are deprived of funding because they do not meet the criteria for funding.
Students always complain that the funders are slow to respond to the funding issues as there are those who filed claims after not being funded, who are still waiting for answers until now.
One of the priority tasks facing Mathebula is to speed up the process to respond to those who file claims for non-subsidy. Another is to restore stability to this fund as there are always complaints even from applicants for late payment.
