A group of people suspected of robbing money transporting vehicles (CIT) narrowly escaped arrest when the police raided the house where they were hiding.

A joint intelligence-based operation recovers seven assault rifles, a submachine gun and a stolen BMW X5 from a house in Daveyton. The operation was carried out on Wednesday evening by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Ekurhuleni Municipal Police Department (EMPD).

The national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the operation is part of an ongoing investigation into a group believed to be linked to a number of serious crimes and violence throughout the province of Gauteng. Mathe said, based on intelligence information, law enforcement officers responded to a house in Daveyton, East Rand, on Wednesday evening. Many firearms and a stolen BMW X5 were found in the house. The suspects managed to escape. The police searched the area and took many things.

“During the search of the area, the police found seven heavy guns, one small gun, high visibility jackets and a stolen BMW X5.”

Although the suspects managed to escape before the police arrived, Mathe said a search operation had been launched throughout the night to find and arrest those believed to be involved.

“The search operation continues throughout the night to find and arrest the known suspects who managed to escape without being arrested.”

Meanwhile, the Acting National Police Commissioner (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, commended the joint efforts of all law enforcement agencies involved in the operation. “

“We have made great progress in eradicating CIT criminal gangs, and we will continue to deal with those who live in our communities and endanger the lives of innocent citizens,” Dimpane said. Dimpane also warned criminals involved in the robbery of vehicles transporting money that their days are numbered.
