A man who has been on the run for more than a year will appear at the Mzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
That is Mr. Xolani Ngobese/Ndlovu (32) who wept for last Wednesday and greeted the court on Friday, his case was adjourned this week.
According to a police statement issued yesterday, Ngobese/Ndlovu, who is known as an Uber driver, is charged with the murder of a police officer, Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa, who was shot dead in their home in Mzimkhulu in April 2024.
The other suspects in this case are former SAPS Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi and Mr. Bhungane Hadebe who is believed to be a bully. They appeared in Port Shepstone High Court today. Sergeant Mbanjwa was the fiancee of Mngqithi who was accused of buying an ox for him and was arrested in November 2024. Hadebe was arrested in January last year in Pietermaritzburg.
When Mngqithi was in prison for the death of his fiancee, there was a rumor about the crime he was suspected of committing in bribery.
It is said that there was a tragic accident in Mzimkhulu in November 2022 involving a truck and a small car in which 7 people died. Mngqithi was investigating the accident.
The police investigation said that Mngqithi bribed the truck driver with R60 000 so that he would not be arrested for murder.
It is suspected that Mngqithi testified by accident and became weak in the dock, and he withheld other evidence and did not bring it to the court. He was then charged with obstruction of justice.
When Klebe Mngqithi was investigated in depth, it was found that he was paid R30 000 from his bank account.
