The Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal has revealed what it thinks are the causes of the alarming statistics of child and adolescent pregnancies recorded in the financial year 2025/26.
The data shows that 421 children aged 10 to 14 are pregnant.
In addition, 28,108 pregnancies were reported among 15- to 19-year-olds.
Previously, Childline KZN was quoted in IOL expressing concern that statistics point to problems of abuse, exploitation, poverty, education gaps, lack of support for young people, inequality, unsafe environment, and family deaths.

Experts in child rearing are still scratching their heads and are puzzled as to why children always choose to access the internet when they want information about sex.
