A 51-year-old businessman was arrested after an intelligence operation in Polokwane for burning the board of a rehabilitation center and a Toyota Hilux in two separate incidents on 28 June 2026.

The car fire spread to a neighboring house where seven people were sleeping, causing about R800,000 worth of damage.

Fortunately, no one was injured because the neighbors rushed to put out the flames.

The police arrested the suspect at his house in Welgelegen, and took the Toyota Fortuner that was allegedly used in these incidents. He is expected to appear at the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of damaging property.

The investigation is ongoing.
