The Western Cape High Court is expected to hear an urgent request by president Cyril Ramaphosa to stop the parliamentary process investigating the results of the Section 89 committee regarding Phala Phala’s case on Wednesday and Thursday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa cited Parliamentary committee chairman Makashule Gana as the second respondent in his urgent request to block the process. The President wants to stop the work of the committee, pending the review of the Report of the Section 89 Panel, which found that it has the first case to answer in the case of Phala Phala.

The request comes as the opposition insists that the impeachment process should go ahead, while the presidency argues that the parliamentary process was improper and should not continue until the courts have ruled on the panel’s case.
