President Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted the immediate resignation of Advocate Andrea Johnson as head of the Department investigating corruption (IDAC), the Office of the President said on Monday.

The Office of the President confirmed that he left his post in a press release on Monday. “According to section 12(8)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act of 1998, president Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted the request of Adv. Andrea Johnson, director of investigations at the Department of Corrupt Practices (IDAC), to leave his post immediately,” said the spokesperson of the Office of the President, Vincent Magwenya.

He said Ramaphosa’s decision followed Kubayi’s recommendation, supported by Mothibi, that Johnson’s request be accepted.

“Adv. Johnson submitted his request for immediate release from office to the National Director of Public Prosecutions and President Ramaphosa.”

Magwenya said Ramaphosa thanked Johnson for his years of service at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and as head of IDAC. “The president assures the leadership and staff of the NPA of the strong support of the government in their work against crime and corruption.”
