Things are messed up at the old people’s home in Ndwedwe, the Banumusa Health Care and Welfare Center as there are some who accuse the board that oversees the place of embezzling money for the elderly.
It is a country spoke to someone who was the treasurer of this board before but was eventually fired, Mr. Philani Ngcobo, who ran amok and called it corruption that happened in this institution.
He started by pointing out that he ended up being dismissed because he was against the ongoing corruption in the country. He stopped with the topic that the board that supervises its operation is just making fun of itself, eating its money.
He said they don’t know what to do now because this practice is not stopping but nothing, it seems to be going further than before.
First of all, he made allegations that the chairman of the institution, Mr. Christopher Sibisi, is doing whatever he wants with the institution’s money.
He revealed that there was a time when he benefited from the work of renovating the institution in an inappropriate way.
He said for the first time; they do not know how this happened because the law does not allow a board member to be the one who gets the job of repairing the facility.
He said that Sibisi ended up benefiting from R140 000 in the wrong way. He said they are wondering how this happened because the job he was given was only to repair the doors.
“Still, no one knows how it happened that this money has reached such a large amount. No one can answer, but the truth we all know is that the grandmother’s money is being taken and they are not playing it,” he said.
He went on to say that there was a time when he received an order that there was R10 000 that he had to withdraw to support another center for the elderly in Mandeni.
“When the chairman ordered me to do this, I just took this message and pasted it on our WhatsApp group, adding that other people could see what I was told to do,” he explained.
Even though he did that, he says, but the money ended up going to that institution. He said that what was strange was that the account he was given to deposit the money into was not marked with the institution in Mandeni that is said to be the one being donated.
It is a country has seen the document instructing the treasurer to transfer the money to the Mandeni centre.
At the same time, he said they were asking themselves how it was possible for their institution to sponsor another one when they saw that they needed help, and they did not even have one car.
Because this corruption was going on, he said that he finally decided to go outside and report to the public about the ongoing corruption in the institution but he said that it was just like pouring water on a duck’s back, this board continued to squander the money of the elderly.
“They finally decided to fire me and put another Pastor Mnqobi Sibiya in the position of treasurer. They knew that he would definitely do what they wanted, so he is doing it as there is a lot of money he is giving out which is not appropriate,” he explained.
It is a country He has seen what is said to be evidence of the various amounts of money in question being released and how much each member of the board was benefiting from.
Ngcobo revealed that in February of this year, they wrote to the Department of Community Development in Pretoria, and he ordered the same Department in KwaZulu-Natal to start an urgent investigation into these allegations, even now but he says that the ponds are still being cleared.
When contacted by the chairman, he said that this issue is very serious, and he urges the journalist to be careful if he ends up writing about it.
Even though he said that, he was asked to say what he knows about this matter, he ended up speaking admitting that he knows and does not like to comment on it because he knows the people who are causing this conflict.
“They are doing everything they can to tarnish our names. I don’t know what their intentions are because we are the founders of this institution. I’m just talking to you, they are even returning to the kings,” he explained.
He said that what is strange to him is that he does not know why if there is corruption, they do not go to report to the police, not what they are doing by running to the newspapers.
“If a person is a criminal, he is arrested by the police, not on paper,” he said.
