It looks like the cost of attending matches for Hollywoodbets Super League teams will decrease after the South African Football Association (Safa) in collaboration with Hollywoodbets sponsors, announced the launch of a new two-group system for the 2026 season of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

This means that the 2026 Super League season, which will begin with a series of matches on the weekend of May 22-24, at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus, in Soweto, will have two groups, Super Rise and Super Era. In some games, teams will play on one field per day.

There will be eight teams per group in this 16-team league.

Ku-Super Rise kuboshelwe iMamelodi Sundowns Ladies, TS Galaxy Queens, University of Western Cape (UWC), University of Johannesburg, Stellenbosch FC, University of Pretoria, Ezemvelo Women’s FC neDiepkloof Ladies FC.

Ku-Super Era kuboshelwe i-JVW FC, University of Fort Hare, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Richmond United Ladies, City Lads FC, First Touch Ladies neRamatlaohle FC.

This national women’s football league, which is the largest in South Africa and provides players for the country’s national team, Banyana Banyana, was established in 2019 with 12 teams.

The teams that will win the Super Rise and Super Era will play the Play-Offs to qualify the team that is the national champion of the Super League at the end of the season in November.

The CEO of Safa, Lydia Monyepao, said that these changes are aimed at making women’s football stand out and marketable.

“Group A teams will not have the opportunity to play with Group B teams until the end of the season to play the Play Offs,” said Monyepao yesterday, when the Hollywoodbets Super League was launched.

“We will increase the level of viewership by having games and festivals (games played on one day in one stadium). This means that if you talk about the number of spectators attending women’s football matches, we will see many spectators, some of whom will be watching on television. That will give all the players a chance to be seen on television.”
