The Minister of Justice who is also the Chairman of the ministerial committee in charge of migration, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has come out publicly and denied allegations that a number of Malawians boarded buses from Durban to Johannesburg instead of being sent back to their country.

In a statement sent on social media on Monday, Kubayi spoke about these allegations directly and assured the public of the integrity of the process of returning his people, after the spread of unverified video clips showing a group of suspected people arriving at the building.

Kubayi’s speech was preceded by a site visit and site inspection in Sherwood on Sunday afternoon, where he assessed the progress made in relation to the ongoing expatriate repatriation programs in the province.

These reports also come as a number of Malawians have taken refuge in Mayors Walk in Pietermaritzburg after fleeing the violence that allegedly broke out in the Jika Joe slums, many of them wanting to be returned to their country of origin.
