The National Press Club (NPC) honored the 2025 Journalist of the Year, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, with the support of the University of South Africa (UNISA).
In accepting his award, the General shared powerful words of reflection and warning, reminding all present of the true meaning of law enforcement service.
“I am receiving this honor tonight humbly, but carefully. Because the work of a police officer is not done for the purpose of applause.
He confirmed that his oath “does not change according to political convenience, media pressure, public opinion or personal results,” stressing that he is working for South Africa.
He warned that “when the institutions start to fear the truth more than the fear of crime, society enters into sin,” and asked all sectors of society to be accountable for their actions.
The General says that this honor is due to the men and women of the police force, stressing that true work is not defined by awards, but by integrity, courage, and dedication to protecting the people of South Africa.
