A South African woman, Ntombi Toni Khumalo Jackson has died in Liberia and the Liberian police (LNP) have identified her husband, prominent economist Samuel Jackson as the suspect.

Ntombi was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the home she and her husband shared in Sinkor, Monrovia on the night of March 12.

However, the LNP revealed it had released Jackson from custody following the expiry of the statutory 48-hour detention limit, although he remains the prime suspect in his wife’s death.

The Inspector General of Police, Gregory Coleman, confirmed on Tuesday that although Jackson has been released to his lawyer, strict conditions have been put in place to ensure that he lives in this area.

“The suspect has been ordered to hand over all travel documents to the police,” Coleman said at a press conference.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we await the final forensic and toxicology reports to determine the woman’s cause of death.”

Jackson has maintained his innocence, according to authorities.

The police added that an autopsy was carried out at St Moses Funeral Home over the weekend, however, they indicated that some samples could be sent abroad to test for toxins or the presence of chemicals in the body of the deceased.
