Former international relations minister Naledi Pandor and her husband were reportedly held at gunpoint during a robbery at their home in Pretoria on Friday night.

According to the police, three armed suspects entered Pandor’s house in Villieria at around 9 pm before confronting Pandor inside the house.

The assailants reportedly stole a number of valuables, including electronics and bank cards, before fleeing the scene. A case of robbery has been opened and the investigation is ongoing.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said detectives are busy searching for the suspects, while Acting National Commissioner Puleng Dimpane condemned the attack and vowed that the police would follow the suspects “night and day”.

Police said Pandor and her husband were not injured during the incident, although this shocked many across the country. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the suspects were targeting the former minister or just common crimes.
