The EFF will strike with experienced candidates in the race for mayor of the country’s largest municipalities in the upcoming local government elections. Most of the people who will represent the EFF in the mayoral race in the country’s major municipalities are members of Parliament.

The list of those who will represent the EFF in the mayoral race was announced by the leader of the party, Mr. Julius Malema, when he presented the document of election promises at the weekend.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the EFF is targeting two major municipalities which are the province’s economic hub, Theku, and the province’s capital, Msunduzi.

In Thekwini Municipality, the EFF will strike with a member of Parliament who has been the general secretary of the party, Ms. Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi.

In the Msunduzi Municipality, the EFF will play with the group’s coordinator in the region, Mr. Stanley Mncwabe.

Senior EFF leaders including the Deputy Leader, Mr. Godrich Gardee, the party’s National Chairman, Mrs. Nontando Nolutshungu, the Treasurer, Ms. Omphile Maotwe, and the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Sinawo Thambo, will all enter the mayoral race in different municipalities.

The EFF will field Gardee in the Mbombela Municipality, Mrs. Noluntshungu in the Cape Town Municipality, Mrs. Maotwe in the Tshwane Municipality, and Thambo in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Malema said that all the major municipalities in the country are plagued by problems including mismanagement of money and non-delivery of services.

“We want these leaders to fix the problems that plagued those municipalities. Where the EFF is in charge, the work is visible. In the Kurhuleni Municipality, we have restored the dignity of our people by providing them with sewerage infrastructure. We were able to fix the financial situation in the Kurhuleni Municipality. They removed our councilor from managing the council’s money and it just got worse. Today the city is clean in Tshwane, you can’t even tell yourself that it is in London. The councilor who is in charge of the city’s cleaning department belongs to the EFF.”

Malema has promised to fix infrastructure and fight corruption if he wins the next election.

“Many municipalities are plagued by problems due to corruption. Many municipalities do not have enough money and that is why they are forcing people who receive government grants to pay for their needs. We do not want tenders, we want people to be fully employed. We want all people to benefit from the municipalities managed by the EFF.”

Malema said that they are ready for the upcoming elections, he said that the upcoming elections are the last chance for the people of this country to free themselves from poverty.
