SEEING himself close to the big scheme of Kaizer Chiefs keeps him motivated by settling in with one of the outstanding players in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), Kabelo Nkgwesa, who accompanied him to the Spanish camp.
Nkgwesa (19), who plays at left back, spoke to the Chiefs media team before completing this tour to introduce himself to the start of the new season. Chiefs played to a draw against Rangers FC from Scotland and Al-Khalood from Saudi Arabia separately before being defeated by Elche CF from Spain.
Nkgwesa, who is one of the promising players, spoke about their efforts to quickly grasp the tactics of the new coach, Fernando Da Cruz, and to quickly learn how it is done in the grand scheme of things.
“It is not the first time that a big team has gone with me to Europe to prepare for the start of the new season. So I will not hide from you that this motivates me,” said Nkgwesa.
“It is proof that I can end up settling in a big team if I continue to work hard in everything I do.
“This time I got a few minutes on the field and I think it helped me a lot in learning how to play and the intensity I should always put into the big team games.
“I have also learned that talent alone does not mean anything at this stage, but working beyond expectations and keeping a clear mind are some of the ingredients of success,”
Nkgwesa mentioned that it is promising how the players show interest in catching Da Cruz’s tactics.
“It’s obvious what the new coach wants, but what’s most exciting is the energy of the players who are doing everything to ensure that they get everything he wants quickly.
“This will help the team to prepare for the start of the league games and be prepared enough to deal with the problems that I am sure will be there later in the season,” said the player.
Chiefs will return to the field with the Toyota Cup where they will face Scotland FC from Zimbabwe on Sunday at 3 pm at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, Rustenburg.
