THE ANC has set itself the challenge of getting over a million votes in Durban in the local government elections in November this year. This organization wants to get 1.2 million votes and wants to independently control the Municipality of Thekwini.

This climb was put up by Mr. Thabani Nyawose, the organizer of the ANC in the Theku region. He said this yesterday, speaking to volunteers of the organization at the Tills Crescent stadium in Overport, Durban.

“We will ensure that the ANC is voted for by 1.2 million people and above. We have made an agreement with volunteers as well as the organization’s leadership structures. We will not lose a single ward, we will also increase the PR seats in Durban,” said Nyawose.

He said they want to keep them and the wards led by this organization in Durban.

“We want to keep 74 wards, out of 112 wards in Durban. We will protect all our 74 wards. No ward will go with the opposition parties,” said Nyawose.

He said those who were saying that the ANC does not exist or is gone, the message is clear that this organization is alive.

“After the 4th of November, we will govern Durban on our own without small parties. We are committed to doing this successfully.”

The coordinator of the party’s leadership team in the province, Mr. Mike Mabuyakhulu, said that there are those who think that it is over with the ANC.

“Many people thought that it was over with the ANC and they pushed it aside. We need to have volunteers in all the wards in the country, so that we can win. Volunteers need to be with the people, it should not work in its own way. What people say should be written down,” he said.

The Secretary General of the ANC, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, said that the organization is supported in this province, he said that the organization is not guilty but it is being wasted by the people.

“We are in the process of electing councillors. If we elect them, elect those who serve the community and are liked by the people. Some have never even called a public meeting since they were elected. We want people who live in the community. Let’s keep those who serve the people.”

He said that those who want to return to this country who will not be deported, will be welcomed with open arms.

“Let’s not stop talking about other people, let’s face the challenges facing the people. In Durban, people are facing the problem of water and crime. The ANC will fix these things. We must work with the community and the police to fight crime,” continued Mbalula.

He said that the SACP has decided to contest the elections independently. He appealed to work for the people, for the leaders to unite.
