Veteran actress, Seputla Sebogodi, who died on July 15, has seen her way and is being ridiculed on social media.

Sebogodi (63), who made a name for himself playing the role of Kenneth Mashaba inGenerationsdied after complications from diabetes.

Recently, Seputla made headlines when a photo of him sitting on the street in Makhanda, eEastern Cape, where he would act in a play iBlack Moon. The play was screened at the National Arts Festival.

Yesterday, at the State Theatre, Pretoria, there was a memorial service attended by many of his acting colleagues.

Actor Kamogelo Maree said Seputla – who was a die-hard fan of Orlando Pirates – was like a father to him.

He said they met in 2024, when he joined the late game iScandal! on e.tv where he made her not feel like she was awake in acting.

The blind actor said that before Seputla went to Makhanda, they had a conversation that left him shocked. He said he saw that the signs that he was going to die were there but he ignored them.

He went on to say that he recently introduced him to another actor, Jerry Phele, You see, he was handing him over to another father because he was leaving.

“He called me on Sunday, before they left and said, ‘I’m leaving Grahamstown (Makhanda) now but I’m afraid I’m going to leave without seeing you’. I said father, when are you going to arrive, he said early in the morning but he wants to go straight to Polokwane. At night he called my party and said, ‘of course I’m going to leave without seeing you’. At 2 in the morning he said he was coming,” said Kamogelo.

He said he was in his room when Seputla arrived and his voice was not heard well when he arrived. He went straight to the bed and slept.

“In the morning he had nothing. I said I suspected that he was hiding something from me, he said he had nothing. He was busy calling. I hate what people say about artists, it’s not nice. My father died with a heavy heart because of the things that were in the news about us and he was calling saying he wanted to arrest people.”

His friend Thomani Makwarela said that on the way back from Makhanda, Seputla called him and said that he was leaving, he was dying.

“I said that’s because he wasn’t the first to say it. Years ago, he said he was leaving when he found out he had diabetes. This time he said he was telling the truth. He told me that he started by calling his children but he couldn’t find them, he said he felt in his body that he was leaving,” said Thomani.

Another memorial service for Seputla, who also sang religious music, will be held at Jack Botes Hall, Polokwane, today at 12 noon.

The funeral service will follow tomorrow at the same hall at 8 am, before he will be buried at Silicon Cemetery, in Polokwane.
