AN ACTIVIST in March and March and who ran for councilorship in Thekwini Municipality under ActionSA, Mr. Nhlanhla “The Big Man” Mqadi, has been charged with assaulting former advertising executive who also broadcasts on Vibe 94.7 FM, Bongekile “Bee” Mkhwanazi.

The KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed that the Durban Central police station arrested a 51-year-old man for assault with intent to injure following an incident on Walnut Road in Durban.

“There are allegations that a dispute started between a man and a woman who work together. The man is accused of beating the woman until she was injured. The suspect appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on June 22, 2026.” According to a message from the police, which Solezwe has, the suspect will return to court on July 26.

Bee (33), who used to broadcast the 9 am and 12 noon program on this radio, said that he is currently in hospital where he is suffering from illness after being beaten by the suspect. He said his argument with the suspect happened on June 12.

Continuing, he said the suspect assaulted him in the early hours of the morning after the station was broadcasting the FIFA World Cup match between Bafana Bafana and Mexico at the Royal Majestic Hotel (formerly known as the Hilton Hotel) in Durban on June 11.

He said he cheated with the suspect by asking the Vibe 94.7 FM official for money to go home because he was not provided with a place to sleep and a car to take him when he was late for work. Bee said his sin was to follow the officer where he was going to sleep with the intention of asking for fare, then he stepped on the suspect’s tail.

Instead of getting the fare, Bee said he got into an argument with the suspect to such an extent that the suspect pulled him out of the elevator and beat him and left him like that stranded, breathing hard, in pain and vomiting. He said the way he was injured led him to undergo surgery at Addington Hospital on June 14.

When Mqadi was contacted to answer these allegations, he refused to comment and said that he was read his rights when he was arrested.

“Brother, because the matter is under investigation by the police, I ask you not to say anything about it until it gets spoiled. Hahaha, we’ll see in the case, hero,” said Mqadi in shorthand.

Bee said that he defeated many famous people who forced him to drop the case but he refused because he wanted justice to be done.
