Mpumalanga taxi chief Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his co-accused Oupa Johannes “Bafana” Sindane filed an urgent application at the High Court in Mbombela to prevent the police from arresting them. They want the court to suspend and later revoke the documents, J50, which authorized their arrest, saying that these documents were found in an improper manner and are against the constitution.

They also want an order preventing the police and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) from arresting them while the matter is in court. This urgent request comes as pressure builds following the NPA’s announcement on Wednesday that the case will be re-registered at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Sibanyoni and the accused are also facing allegations of defrauding money of more than R2 million which is said to be the protection money of a local businessman. Recent developments have strengthened the scrutiny of high-profile cases.
